Children arrive at 9:30 and self-register. From then on they are able to choose to be inside or outside and from a number of activities. We aim to set up the environment with a variety of open-ended equipment – items that the children can choose to use in the way they want to. For example a tyre can be anything from a boat or car to part of an obstacle course or built in a tower of two or three, it is a perfect place to hide.
Our snack bar café is open between 9:45 and 10:30. The children are able to help themselves, under adult supervision, to cereal or toast and a selection of fruit with a drink of milk or water. Washing up afterwards is encouraged!
Just before home time at about 11:45 the children are encouraged to join together to chat about their morning and to sing goodbye to the children who are going home. Those who stay to lunch eat at about 12:15 and then have free-flow play options until home time at 1:45.
During free-flow play, the children extend their learning through direction and encouragement given by the staff and, often, by the more able children too.
Once a week the children will spend their morning in the local woods, having fun, exploring and investigating. Children who stay for lunch will also picnic in the woods once a week. Visits to the woods will take place whatever the weather and therefore the children will need a suitable coat, a pair of wellie boots and a change of clothing in a named bag.
